I deleted my last comment because I repeated myself and this is confusing for you.
My comment is the same but with repetition removed!!! I must've been tired when I did this!
You have a tendency to describe the story rather than analysing the purpose of the editing effects used to signal the past. You have chosen videos by two artists but the quality of the music videos is very different.
"The One that Got Away" is dramatic with the flashbacks communicating the back story. This is a story about age and regret. The performances and editing are strong examples of the use of flashbacks but you have a tendency to describe the story rather than analysing the editing technique used to alert the viewer that the action showing is from the past.
Narrative can be difficult to engage with but to revise:
1) Identify the use of alteration of colour in post- production. Note the blue cold tones of the present to connote isolation/alienation and the warmer sepia blurred tone of the past in the first transition to the flashback to the 60's. This colour alteration is to alert the viewer that the story has moved from real time.
2) Identify two or three transitions where you think this is most successful; also the purpose of the colour alteration when the older woman is confronted with the girl from the past.
3) Use of binary opposites (Straus); identify at least two clips (using screen shots) where this use of binary opposition intensifies the drama of the story.
4) The second music video montage) : Try to be more critical, you may not agree with me but this is a run of the mill vacuous production celebrating the American Dream. The montage of a day out is packed with USA signifiers for example the Californian beaches, the American flag, the cars etc.
5) Therefore you need to explain the symbolic association of these ideas. What is being celebrated? Think about USA’s mood of confidence, heterosexuality, female dependence, thus the representation of gender and the institutions are traditional.
6) You could also include screen shots or clips from other music videos or films which use flashbacks and a montage narrative.
I am sending you all further advice re the focus in this particular case study. At present lower level 3, with revisions the grade will be strengthened. It may be worth doing another prezi focusing on each point I've made.
